KUMITE

Tokui Kata - free choice of any one of the advanced katas

Jiyu Kumite - minimum 6 fights

demonstrating the meaning of the three points of kata:

Tokui waza - the ability to execute tokui waza in fighting situation

* Contraction and expansion * Soft and hard * Fast and slow

Positive energy during kumite

Selected katas by grading kata

Dojo kumite - not tournament kumite

Bunkai = application of amoves from all of the above kata

Demonstration of tehniques on punching bag

Required kata: All Heian Kata, Tekki Shodan; Tekki Nidan; Tekki SandanBassai Dai; Kanku Dai; Hangets; Empi; Jion; Gankaku; Jitte


ADVANCEMENT

RING CONTROLLER, REFEREE, JUDGE

Annual standardisation seminars held by headquarters

Minimum of five SA JKA referee stamps in Lifebook

National/regional seminars and training

Only stamps from official SA JKA tournaments will be recognised and must be signed by Referee Director, Chief Referee or Technical Director

Training held by visiting international instructors

Qualification as Ring Controller, Referee or judge at National/Regional examination is required. Valid for 3 years.

Bag Work/Makiwara - emphasis on correct foot and hand positioning
